ProVend II - Fare Collection Equipment

Ticket Vending Machine

VenTek Central Controller

Ticket Office Machine

The VenTek ProVend II Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) is designed to provide an array of unique features, tailored to the particular operating environments of client agencies.

Foremost, the ProVend II TVM incorporates a very user friendly, audio and menu driven patron interface. The TVM can accept coins, tokens, bills, credit cards, debit cards and smart cards for payment. A variety of ticket types, parking permits and receipts can also be issued by the TVM.

A patron can make multiple purchases during a single transaction and is made fully aware of how much money has been inserted and remains to be inserted to complete a transaction. A transaction may be cancelled at any time with a full refund of inserted cash or credit against a card transaction.

Some of the key operating features of the system and its design are:

MODULAR DESIGN

The TVM design includes 8 separate ‘Hot Swappable’ Intelligent Modules:

ü      Coin validator & recirculation module

ü      Coin vault module

ü      Coin or token hopper modules (up to 4)

ü      Bill validator & escrow module

ü      Bill vault module

ü      High speed thermal printer modules (4)

ü      Security module

ü      Customer/Maintenance interface module

The above modules can readily be replaced for ease of maintenance.

Each module retains in permanent flash memory its serial number, ID number, software & hardware revision levels, cash audit totals and maintenance information. The TVM controller, although not ‘hot-swappable’, is easily replaced by simply unlocking and removing it from its own docking bay. All TVM data is retained on a removable flash memory card which is also secured by a lock.

CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT –

The TVM Configuration Manager provides the user with the ability to continuously tailor the TVM system to the particular operating needs of the agency. Some of features provided by the Configuration Manager are:

ü      User configurable patron menu screens programmable in WYSIWYG format;

ü      User configurable Rate Tables;

ü      User configurable audio scripts;

ü      User configurable warning/alarm conditions

ü      User configurable ticket design

ü      User configurable menu flow of the graphic display

ü      User configurable local and remote alarms (audible & silent) reporting

DATA REPORTING

The VenTek TVM system provides a complete platform for recording, tracking and reporting revenue transactions, maintenance activities, access events and system performance conditions including:

ü      Real-time monitoring of ticket vending equipment at the VenTek Central Controller (VCC), using a graphical interface.

ü      The TVMs communicate with the VCC using the industry standard TCP/IP protocols. Configurations of  station LANs or system WANs can utilize any combination of Ethernet, fiber optics or wireless connectivity.

ü      Reporting and management of events and alarms, and the general status of each Ticket Vending Machine at the VCC.

ü      VCC controls authorization of credit/debit/smart card transactions with secure links to a financial clearing center.

ü      Configuration management of the TVM modules such as printers, bill acceptors, and coin acceptors.

ü      Reporting on archived status and transaction information through pre-defined user reports or agency generated special reports.

ü      Audit ticket issuance at each maintenance event.  The tickets note the event time and serial number of module extracted.  The VCC maintains complete inventory location control over all modules – printers, coin hoppers, coin vaults, coin acceptors, bill acceptor / vaults and security modules.

ü      Access event audit capabilities are provided through the alarm reporting systems of the VCC.

CURRENCY HANDLING

The bill acceptor is a Sedeco™BNA-5 series banknote validator that accepts currency in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars. Standard features of the bill acceptor include the following:

ü      Four way insertion (no specific orientation required)

ü      Software controlled inlet and outlet shutters to prevent insertion of foreign objects and tampering

ü      Remote configuration through the VenTek Central Controller (VCC)

ü      Rapid bill transport (throughput of up to 1 bill every 2 seconds)

ü      Fifteen bill escrow

All bills entered during a transaction are stored in a rear holding area. The cancellation of a transaction results in the return of all the bills deposited.

The bill vault is located directly below the bill acceptor. Bills are deposited and stored in the bill vault only after a transaction has been completed.  All movements of the bill vault are reported and retained through the VCC reporting systems.  Bill vaults cannot be reinserted to the TVM without proper resetting through the cash-processing center reset platform, which extracts and reports vault cash data for use in independent reconciliation.

COIN HANDLING

Coins are validated and processed through a coin acceptor unit, which serves a recirculating change-making system.  Upon filling, the coin acceptor directs the coins to the coin vault.

The coin acceptor has the following features:

ü      Interchangeable coin cassettes

ü      Support for up to 8 coin types and two tokens

ü      Integrated validation and acceptance routing

ü      Motor driven payout

A secured coin vault is situated below the coin acceptor unit. The coin vault can hold 50 pounds of coins when full. All movements of the coin bill vault are reported and retained through the VCC reporting systems.  Coin vaults cannot be reinserted to the TVM without proper resetting at the cash-processing center.

In addition, in order to provide additional change-making capabilities, the TVM system supports four coin or token hoppers, holding denominations defined by the agency.    Each hopper can contain up to 1,000 dollar coins for use in change making, in the event that the recirculating coin system is emptied.   Hopper movement is controlled through inventory control reports of the VCC.

PRINTER SYSTEMS

The TVM Printer System contains four discrete high speed, low maintenance thermal printer mechanisms and four discrete paper paths.  This design provides redundancy in the event that one printer fails or allows the use of four discreet types of paper stock.

POWER SYSTEMS

In addition to standard UPS power failure protection, the VenTek TVM Power Management System provides the TVM unit controller with the ability to “power down” individual modules to conserve power in a black-out situation. The unit controller will restore power to the modules after a blackout.

CUSTOMER INTERFACE CAPABILITIES

Selection - The ProVend II TVM uses a menu driven customer interface similar to that of Automatic Teller Machines (ATM’s).  Ticket purchase options are selected using the Menu Selection Buttons that line both sides of the screen. The buttons correspond to the choices presented on the screen.

ADAThe TVM design contains many features that address the particular needs of the disabled community.

Raised Letters & Braille: Braille interface assists TVM customers who are sight impaired to interact with the TVM in an easy and efficient manner. Each input button has a corresponding keypad button that identifies its purpose. A raised path tactile strip, along with raised lettering, assists the user in moving from one function site to the next.

Audio: An Audio interface with volume control buttons is located to the left of the screen. Dual stereo speakers are located in the canopy and directed down towards the customer interface. The amplifier has adjustable gain and treble/bass control. A standard mini audio jack located  on the TVM door cuts out the speakers and provides privacy through the use of customer provide headphones.

The Audio interface is comprised of prerecorded messages that represent each of the button choices. The feature, when used, leads the listener through all steps of the purchase transaction.  Choosing Audio allows you to hear the screen information as well as see it.  The Audio feature is available for all screens and can be heard in any combination of languages.

A special keypad is available to make purchase selections, in concert with instructions provided through the audio presentation.

Height:  All operating controls are placed no higher that 54” from the ground.
